Released on August 31, 1987, Bad represents the pinnacle of pop perfection and the final landmark collaboration between Michael Jackson and producer Quincy Jones. Following the massive success of Thriller, Jackson took on a much more creative role, writing nine of the album's eleven original songs.

The album not only redefined the sound of the late '80s with its blend of funk, rock, and cutting-edge synthesizers, but also transformed the visual aesthetic of music through iconic short films. With themes ranging from social justice in "Man in the Mirror" to paranoia in "Smooth Criminal," Bad demonstrated that Michael was an artist in complete control of his narrative and his sound.
